Solar Basics

Is my home a good fit for solar?

Most homes can benefit from solar, but a few factors determine how much.

  • Roof orientation. South-facing roofs capture the most sun, though east and west facing roofs still perform well.
  • Shade. Heavy shade from trees or nearby buildings reduces output; some shading can be designed around.
  • Roof condition and age. A roof near the end of its life may be worth replacing before panels go on, since the panels last for decades.
  • Your electric usage. The more electricity you use, the more there is to offset and the faster solar pays off.

The only way to know for sure is a site evaluation. See getting a solar quote to start.
